Scott Brown can’t wait to be lining up again alongside Leigh Griffiths.

The striker is one of the longest serving players at Celtic but 2019 his contribution to the club has been minimal as other issues are dealt with.

Brown and Griffiths have been at the heart of many of the great successes over the last half dozen years but in the absence of one former Hibs player Broony has kept the show on the road.

On Tuesday night Griffiths played his first match in almost two months when he scored twice in a friendly against Stenhousemuir with Celtic badly short of striking options.

A fully fit Griffiths is worth 20-30 goals a season to Celtic with Brown in no doubt about the value of the former Hibs and Dundee striker.

“We need Leigh getting back to working hard, scoring goals and doing what he does best whether it’s for us or for Scotland,” the Celtic skipper told STV.

“He was incredible for Scotland, the way he played against England, if we can get him back to those fitness levels we all know he’s going to put the ball in the back of the net with that left foot.”

Neil Lennon will provide an update on Griffiths at tomorrow’s media conference to preview Saturday’s match against Livingston.

No one will be happier that the Celtic boss to see the striker back at full strength after the promise shown by scoring in the first two weeks of the season.
