Striker reveals secret anger over Celtic Park’s best ever penalty save

Louis Saha has revealed the worst aspect of his Champions League miss against Celtic- or should that be save from Arthur Boruc.

In November 2006 Celtic Park hosted one of its most memorable Champions League nights as Alex Ferguson returned to Glasgow with a team of Manchester United greats including Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

Gordon Strachan had won the SPL title in style with two key signings- Boruc and Shunsuke Nakamura- hitting the ground running and impressing in the Champions League.

A second half free kick from Nakamura put Celtic in front but the good work looked like being undone when the visitors were awarded a very soft penalty for a handball by Shaun Maloney.

The star names looked away, Saha stepped up, Boruc saved but there was more agony for the striker as he recalled in The Sun:

He told FourFourTwo: “The worst memory about it is that my own team-mate, Gary Neville, actually predicted I’d miss the penalty! He said that to someone, then I read it in a newspaper – I was fuming!

“But with Gary, we argued a lot, so no change there. It’s about how you react, and the following weekend I scored against Chelsea , one of the best goals I scored in my career.”

That win ensured that Celtic had qualified for the knock-out stage with one match, away to FC Copenhagen, still to play. In the last 16 Celtic lost out 1-0 to AC Milan on aggregate.
