Odsonne Edouard scored for the sixth u-21 match running but his early penalty counted for little as France crashed to a 3-1 defeat away to Switzerland.

Both nations went into the match with three wins from three matches but after tonight’s result in Neuchatel it’s the Swiss who are in pole position to top the group and advance to the final stages of the European Championships.

Edouard had scored a stoppage time penalty against Georgia on Friday night to secure victory and dinked in a Panenka style penalty after 19 minutes of tonight’s match.

The Swiss struck back twice before the break, Jeremy Guillemenot equalising in the 44th minute before Andri Zequiri put them in front in stoppage time with the same player putting the home side 3-1 up in the 53rd minute. Within 10 minutes the Swiss had turned a one goal deficit into a two goal lead.

There was no further scoring with Edouard unable to add to his international record of 11 goals in six matches with Neil Lennon waiting on word that his first choice striker is fit and well to face Livingston on Saturday.
