‘I was impartial Rob, Scottish teams in Europe like you back English teams in Europe’.
Since Celtic’s last gasp win over Lazio on Thursday night there has been almost as much attention given to Chris Sutton’s celebrations as the match itself.
The former Celtic striker had been highly critical, or was it frustrated, by his old side during the first half of their Europa League tie against Lazio, even after James Forrest equalised in the 37th minute.
“Lennon and Gerrard in Europe have been phenomenal!”

The second half was a classic European tie as both teams dominated for periods, towards the end of the 90 minutes Fraser Forster pulled off a couple of exceptional saves to keep Celtic on course for a point.
When the fourth official added on five minutes of stoppage time those with a pizza half empty feared the worst but Celtic dominated that period with Ntcham popping up in the final minute to slide home a famous winning goal.
Sutton suffered an especially painful defeat to Juventus in 2001, Thursday night wasn’t revenge for the result against Juventus but it was certainly sweet and worth celebrating.
