Fraser Forster will look on from afar as England attempt to clinch their place at the European Championships, wondering if he will add to his six international caps. A point from the matches against Montenegro and Kosovo will secure their place in the tournament with the final staged at Wembley.

After 18 months virtually out of football Forster has taken his chance at Celtic as if he had never been away.

When he arrived at the club towards the end of August the hoops were still coming to terms with their Champions League exit as a new look defence was put in place.

On his latest debut he was beaten by a penalty rebound against Hearts then starred in a 2-0 win at Ibrox as Celtic controlled the Glasgow derby to ease clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership.

On a personal level the biggest test for Forster has been in the Europa League- a level of football that none of his England rivals have any experience of.

Home and away against Lazio the 31-year-old Celtic keeper was outstanding, providing the solid base for two stunning results that booked Neil Lennon’s side an early place in the knock out stage of the Europa League in February.

Here Video Celts takes a brief look at the keepers that Gareth Southgate has picked ahead of the on-loan Southampton stopper.

JORDAN PICKFORD

Has been the established first choice since the build up to the 2018 World Cup Finals, taking over from Joe Hart who never recovered from two Leigh Griffiths free kick’s a year earlier.

Everton have been in horrendous form this season with Saturday’s 2-1 win at Southampton taking some of the pressure away. Everton are sixth bottom of the EPL with little chance of Pickford playing in Europe any time soon.

NICK POPE

Has played 46 EPL matches for Burnley and was part of the 2018 World Cup Finals squad alongwith Jack Butland who is now in his second season in the Championship at Stoke City.

Burnley are sitting in 10th place which is about as good as it gets, Pope was injured against Aberdeen last season and missed out on a couple of Europa League qualifiers. Last season he started three first team matches. Has got one full cap, playing for 25 minutes as a substitute against Costa Rica in a friendly last year.

TOM HEATON

After six seasons at Burnley he moved to Aston Villa in the summer for £8m. Villa are currently fourth from bottom in the EPL.

Heaton made his international debut in 2016, coming on for Forster for three minutes in the Euro 2016 warm up match against Australia at the Stadium of Light. An injury picked up at training on Friday is likely to see him pull out of the squad for next week’s matches.

DEAN HENDERSON

Is expected to replace Heaton after playing 12 matches in the EPL for Sheffield United who he helped to promotion last season.

The 22-year-old is on loan from Manchester United and was badly at fault in the summer as England crashed out of the u-21 European Championships.
