Douglas Ross was at the centre of controversy today as he returned to top flight football following the General Election.

The newly elected MP for Moray made the 400 mile round trip to Paisley today as he teamed up with Willie Collum to take charge of Celtic’s televised visit to St Mirren.

St Mirren’s forward line didn’t test Ross too much in the first half as Callum McGregor and James Forrest put Celtic in front before the half time break.

Early in the second half Odsonne Edouard brilliantly held back to remain onside, advanced on goal then curled his shot round the keeper to put apparently put Celtic 3-0 in front. Not so as the assistant raised his flag with replays on BT Sport showing that he had got the decision badly wrong.

In the closing minutes St Mirren pulled a goal back from a deflected free kick with Celtic forced to hold on to a 2-1 advantage rather than cruising through to the final whistle had Edouard’s effort not been disallowed.
