Alex Rae is standing his ground claiming that James Tavernier is a better player than Jeremie Frimpong!

After a dozen top team appearances, the Dutch kid has picked up a League Cup winners medal with Neil Lennon claiming that he is one of best players of his age that he has ever worked with.

Now in his fifth season at Ibrox Tav, as he is affectionally known, has only the 2016 Petrofac Training Cup  and Championship winners medal from a league that contained Alloa and Dumbarton to show from his time at Ibrox.

It’s a bit ambitious, Tavernier has been doing it for numerous years now and he continues to do it. But what you will say about Frimpong is he is a breath of fresh air.

Other than watching Celtic lift trophies it’s not known exactly what Tav has been doing for numerous years.

Rae has been out of football since being sacked by St Mirren in September 2016. Previously he managed Dundee for 98 matches between May 2006 and October 2008.

Celtic signed Frimpong from Manchester City on transfer deadline day for a reported fee of £350,000 with the EPL side having a healthy slice of any sell on fee.

The 19-year-old only made his SPFL Premiership debut on October 19 but is now established as Celtic’s first choice right-back.
