Fraser Forster’s heroics at Hampden weren’t appreciated by everyone on Sunday. In fact half of the fans in the National Stadium were plunged into despair by his display.

The on-loan keeper had already pulled off a handful of excellent saves but in the 63rd minute it seemed certain that his luck- and Celtic’s- was about to run out.

Within a couple of seconds Chris Jullien’s clearance bounced off Kris Ajer’s chest, it broke to Alfredo Morelos and suddenly Willie Collum was pointing to the penalty spot with Jeremie Frimpong shown a red card.

At that moment it seemed that fate had swung towards the Ibrox side- but Forster had other ideas as he chased his first League Cup winners medal.

James Tavernier suddenly decided that he didn’t want to take the penalty, Morelos looked fearful with his penalty pushed away by the former England keeper.

There was still 30 minutes to go but Forster wasn’t to be beaten. Other chances fell to the Colombian superstar but the harder he tried the least likely he was to score.

At full time tears were shed, Ryan Jack led it on one side while delighted Celtic players and supporters saluted the contribution of Forster as trophy number 10 was secured.
