Chris Sutton couldn’t resist a late night sign off after watching Celtic win the League Cup at Hampden.
The former Celtic striker is the highest profile pundit in the Scottish game- out to be knocked down with every opinion that he shares.
In the build-up to the final he went out on a limb to warn James Tavernier that failure at Hampden would add to his reputation as a serial loser. Likewise for Steven Gerrard he’d become the nearly manager.
Having a viewpoint results in incredible online abuse for Sutton, on-air he lives with the jibes from Robbie Savage, Ally McCoist and Alex Rae with ease. You need to be sharp to out-muscle Sutty.
‘The Rangers are coming’ has been the message to Sutton over the last four years but Brendan Rodgers ensured that was an empty threat.
In February Neil Lennon was drafted in to rescue a possible collapse, he did it with strong man-management, delivering the treble with someone else’s squad and earned the job on a permanent basis.
Some celebrated Lennon getting the job permanently as if it was a trophy success, Sutton has heard it all before and will no doubt be getting it in the neck again from the usual suspects.
