Fabricio Bruno’s contract stalemate with Cruzeiro has taken a bizarre twist with his agent accused of stealing documents following a meeting with a club official.
The defender has been to court to try and get his contract cancelled but a decision on that issue has been put back until February 8.
Relegation has sent Cruzeiro into meltdown with a new board installed with the immediate aim of keeping the club afloat before planning a return to the top flight of Brazilian football.
Bruno and his agent seem determined to cut all ties with the club with Jovempan.com reporting:
A statement said: “Vittorio Medioli has confirmed that he will file a police report with the police station.
“Cruzeiro EC publicly deplores the behavior of player agent Fábio Mello, who after a meeting with the CEO of the Transitional Core Manager, Vittorio Medioli, tried to get hold of some sensitive Club documents by returning to the meeting room which, at the moment it was empty.
“After the meeting, Fábio Mello took advantage of a quick departure from Medioli, returned to the room and took with him several documents. Upon noticing the agent’s movements through the reflection of the glass, Medioli approached him at the elevator door and managed to retrieve most of the documents, but one of these eventually escaped and was missed only after a detailed conference.”
South American football can be a minefield for transfers with numerous agents involved and third parties trying to claim a stake in players.
Bruno played 17 matches in central defence as Cruzeiro were relegated but seems to have caught the attention of someone in Celtic’s scouting network.
Kris Ajer and Chris Jullien have been the regular central defenders for Neil Lennon but with Jozo Simunovic and Hatem Abd Elhamed out injured Nir Bitton has been drafted in to central defence.
