For the first time in eight years Mikael Lustig had no active part in a Celtic cup final.

Throughout the Treble Treble years, the Swede was at the heart of Celtic’s Hampden successes and always heavily involved in the post match celebrations.

Yesterday he had to settle for the view from Belgium, wearing his Celtic onesie as his old team-mates lifted the League Cup for the fourth year running.

Like all Celtic fans it was a nervous 90 minutes plus as Neil Lennon and Fraser Forster got their hands on the trophy for the first time.

The on-loan keeper was in outstanding form from the moment he kept a firm left hand to push away a 25-yard effort from Ryan Jack.

Time and time again Forster defied Alfredo Morelos, in the 63rd minute he dived to his right to push away a penalty kick as the confidence drained out of the Colombian striker.

Lustig’s berth in the team has been taken on by Jeremie Frimpong, it seems that right-back’s are destined to become fan favourites at Celtic.
