Sam Cosgrove has had his appeal over his red card against Celtic rejected by the SFA.

Over a video call the evidence was reviewed of his incident with Kris Ajer with the three man panel backing the decision of referee Euan Anderson.

The striker was shown a straight red card for a dangerous lunge at the Celtic defender that required Ajer to take evasive action to avoid serious injury.

With the ball close to the corner flag Cosgrove hit top speed as he flew in with both feet off the ground to challenge for the ball. While his right foot made contact with the ball his trailing left made contact with Ajer.

Referee Anderson issued a red card with Derek McInnes describing the challenge as a great tackle. Willie Miller who knows a thing or two about tackling agreed that the ordering off was deserved.

McInnes vowed to appeal but after just over an hour in front of the SFA today the decision has been upheld with Cosgrove missing Thursday’s visit from Livingston through suspension.
