Fraser Aird has been sacked by Cove Rangers after being shown making an obscene gesture at Celtic fans during the Glasgow derby.

The Canadian international starlet joined the League Two side at the end of September, scoring three times in seven starting appearances.

Aird made the journey from Canada to Ibrox in 2012 but was released in January 2017 with his career tailing off via Falkirk, Dundee United and Queen of the South before joining Cove

Tonight the League Two promotion favourites stated:

Cove Rangers FC is aware of an image which is circulating relating to one of our players at the recent Celtic v Rangers match.

As a club we do not condone such behaviour and expect all of our players to represent our club in the correct manner at all times.

Fraser Aird’s contract with the club was due to expire at the start of January and as a result he will be leaving the club with immediate effect.

Cove could simply have released Aird at the end of this week but have chosen to make an example of the 24-year-old.

Players are often spotted on television watching other teams but tend to act more diplomatically.
