Neil Lennon has admitted that there have been tentative talks with Jonny Hayes about extending his contract.

The Irishman’s current deal runs until the end of this season, this year he has played a key role this year as back-up to Kieran Tierney and Boli Boligoli.

Brendan Rodgers paid Aberdeen £1.3m to sign Hayes in the summer of 2017, initially as winger but over time he has adapted more to playing as a left-back.

Asked about discussion to extend Hayes’ contract Lennon said:

Just tentative ones at the minute so we’ll see how that goes. I like him, I think that he has done very well for me, I think that he can play a number of positions, he’s very fit, very quick, a good squad player. Put it this way since I came in here he’s not let me down.

Hayes is likely to miss tomorrow’s match against his old club as he tries to manage a shoulder issue.

Bolingoli started Sunday’s win over Hibs but made way for Hayes away to Hearts with Greg Taylor on the bench for both matches.

After coming off the bench to score at Ibrox in September Hayes popularity went off the radar among Celtic fans with the Irishman appearing to cherish every match that he gets in the hoops.

Whether he wants to stay on as a squad player at the age of 33 remains to be seen but with a Scottish Cup winners medal and goal at Ibrox on his CV he has lived the dream of millions.
