Neil Lennon has made a low key commitment to brining in new signings in the January transfer window.

Back in April the hoops boss identified signing a striker as the club’s signing priority but that request was ignored during the summer window.

The need for an additional striker has been highlighted over the last three months with Odsonne Edouard carrying the torch with Leigh Griffiths, Lewis Morgan and Vakoun Bayo contributing very little.

Celtic’s central defence also needs strengthening with Kris Ajer and Chris Jullien both playing in all but one of the nine demanding December fixtures.

After the winter break Celtic are back in action on January 18 against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup but there seemed little urgency in Lennon’s comments yesterday about new arrivals.

The Daily Record reports:

Asked if he now intends to splash Celtic’s cash in the January sales Lennon said: “I don’t want to change too much but I’m obviously looking to strengthen in a couple of areas. I’ve said that all along. We’ll try to endeavour to do that and look forward to an exciting second half of the season.”

The sale of Kieran Tierney in August provided Celtic with a £10m profit from the summer transfer window with players such as Emilio Izaguirre, Dedryck Boyata, Dorus de Vries and Scott Allan dropping off the wage bill to balance out the new arrivals.

Celtic’s report for the year to 30 June 2019 revealed a bank balance close to £40m.
