Celtic have been linked with a complex offer for Fabricio Bruno.

The 23-year-old plays for Cruzeiro of Brazil with reports earlier this year suggesting that Celtic were starting to scout in South America. In July Neil Lennon confirmed Celtic’s interest in Ecuador midfielder Jose Cifuentes.

A European passport would be required for any move to go through with Brazilian football notorious for the amount of agents and outside parties that claim a stake/interest in a player.

Brazilian website Terra reports:

Despite needing financial contributions due to the crisis and many debts, Cruzeiro rejected a proposal from Celtic-ESC, by defender Fabrício Bruno, 23 years old. The information was initially given by GloboEsporte.com and confirmed by L !.

The proposal, of 3 million euros (about R $ 13.6 million) for 70% of its rights, which belong to Cruzeiro. Despite the refusal, there are no closed doors in the negotiations, being possible even a loan of the player, with the sale value fixed.

So far this season Kris Ajer and Chris Jullien have been Celtic’s regular central defensive partnership but beyond that the hoops are short on options.

Jozo Simunovic hasn’t played since August due to persistent knee problems while Hatem Abd Elhamed has been missing since the start of November due to a groin injury picked up during the win over Lazio in Rome.

Nir Bitton has been drafted in to play in central defence with Neil Lennon keen to have quality cover and competition in every area of the park.
