Brendan Rodgers has already been overlooked for the job of managing Arsenal.

According to a report in The Athletic, picked up by The Mirror, the then Celtic boss was considered for the job of managing Arsenal in 2018 when it was known that Arsene Wenger was leaving the club.

Rodgers was well into his second season at Celtic with the bookies quickly linking him with the Arsenal job.

Predictably the Irishman put it all down to speculation but it seems that his name was considered by the Arsenal board of directors.

The Mirror reports:

Arsenal have been linked with an approach for Brendan Rodgers – after rejecting the chance to interview him over the job back in 2018.

According to The Athletic , Rodgers was considered by the Gunners before they appointed Unai Emery. But they decided against interviewing the Northern Irishman due to concerns over his personality and stature as they looked to replace Arsene Wenger.

Emery was appointed as Arsenal manager on 23 May 2018 as Celtic enjoyed the status of a Double Treble.

After signing Odsonne Edouard early in June things seem to have gone downhill fast in his relationship with the Celtic board with the transfer sagas involving John McGinn casting a shadow over the transfer window.

No further transfer fees were paid out with Emilio Izaguirre, Filip Benkovic and Youssouf Mulumbu brought in after AEK Athens had ended Celtic’s hopes of reaching the Champions League group stage for the third season running.
