It seems that the love-in between Rod Stewart and the Celtic support is over.

Since the early seventies the singer has made no secret of which football club means most to him with Celtic even featuring in his ‘You’re In My Heart’ hit in 1977.

In 1995 Stewart opened the North Stand at Celtic Park and has been a regular visitor to the stadium where he has his own seat in the Directors Box.

Recently the singer spent a few days in Rome with the Celtic fans for the match against Lazio but one tweet last night suggests that he won’t get the same warm welcome the next time that he takes in a European away tie.

While many say that sport and politics should be kept apart the reality is somewhat different. Celtic like to proclaim themselves as more than a club as they highlight various charitable initiatives.

The newly elected Prime Minister of the UK faces a major battle with the people and government of Scotland after Thursday’s landslide votes on both sides of the border.

Within reason everyone is entitled to express their opinions, Stewart is clearly a fan of the UK Prime Minister with many Celtic fans having a fiercely different opinion.
