Ryan Christie has been offered a two match ban by the SFA for apparently grabbing Alfredo Morelos by the genitals during Sunday’s Glasgow derby.

Exactly a year ago the Colombian carried out the same offence on the former Inverness Caley Thistle forward and escaped punishment. Morelos also attacked Tony Ralston and Scott Brown without any punishment from referee John Beaton.

Today’s charge gives Peter Lawwell the opportunity to stand up and defend the club with the events of Sunday seeing Celtic’s name tarnished across the board.

In April the SFA had an attempt to suspend Brown for a gesture to his own fans thrown out when Celtic took Nick De Marco QC into the appeal hearing.

News of the charge against Christie suggests that no actions will be taken against two Ibrox stars for gestures at Celtic supporters. After opening the scoring Ryan Kent decided to run towards Celtic fans with an imaginary gun in one hand while pointing to his head with the other.

After being sent off Morelos drew his finger slowly across his throat in a threatening and menacing gesture known the world over.
