Chris Sutton was underwhelmed by Celtic’s 2-0 Europa League defeat against Cluj tonight.

The hoops had already topped the group before the match kicked off with only Lewis Morgan and Chris Jullien surviving from the side that won the League Cup Final on Sunday.

Most attention was on Leigh Griffiths who was one of the better players as he completed his first 90 minutes since August carrying the main threat to the Cluj defence.

Mikey Johnston looked sharp at times but was given little support forcing him to go solo when he was pushing forward. Teenager Scott Robertson didn’t look out of his depth alongside Olivier Ntcham in the holding midfield roles.

There was little between the sides in the first half with Cluj given the boost of knowing that they were progressing to the last 32 with Lazio losing 1-0 away to Rennes.

After the break Celtic were guilty of sloppy defending, losing goals to Andrei Burca and Damjan Djokovic in the 48th and 70th minutes.

Celtic will be seeded in Monday’s draw for the last 32 with APOEL (Cyprus), FC Copenhagen, Getafe, Sporting Lisbon, Eintract Frankfurt, Club Brugge, Olympiakos, Bayer Leverkusen and Shakhtar Donetsk nine of their potential opponents.
