Rio Ferdinand was swept away by the drama, tension and euphoria of Celtic’s dramatic League Cup win.

In truth it was an awful match, Celtic barely got out of second gear but as every finalist will tell you it is all about winning. Losers tend not to be remembered as their victors take the honour and glory.

The weather at Hampden was foul throughout the day but that didn’t bother the 25,000 Celtic fans that had turned up to cheer the hoops on to their 10th successive domestic trophy.

Ferdinand joined Chris Sutton early in the day in the BT Sport studio and had mixed loyalties. As a young Celtic fan he admired Paul McStay but spent significant time in an England shirt alongside Steven Gerrard and Jermain Defoe.

Gerrard was seeking his first trophy in management but was up against the most ruthless trophy winning machine in the history of the Scottish game.

Moussa Dembele helped get the current run of success underway but it was another Frenchman that decided the trophy today with Chris Jullien scoring on the hour mark.

After that it was all about Fraser Forster against Alfredo Morelos- the Englishman came out on top and as Ferdinand knows it is all about winners on cup final day.
