Sam Cosgrove’s red card was one of the main talking points in Celtic’s 2-1 win over Aberdeen today.
The hoops restored their five point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership but it could have been at quite a price as Kris Ajer narrowly avoided serious injury.
Odsonne Edouard restored Celtic’s lead in the 66th minute when Dons sub Jon Gallagher raced towards the Celtic goal. Ajer slid in with a perfect tackle to knock the ball towards the corner flag when the red mist fell down on Cosgrove. Just as it did in March 2018 when he lashed out at Scott Brown during a defeat at Pittodrie.

Reaching a speed that he rarely manages in possession of the ball Cosgrove went flying in on Ajer as he turned to bring the ball back into play. The young Norwegian half anticipated it to take the sting out of the attack- if he hadn’t he’d have been spending Christmas in hospital recovering from a broken leg.
Cosgrove can now look forward to a day off on Thursday due to suspension when Aberdeen face Livingston before returning to play Hearts on Sunday.
