Celtic turned up the pressure at the top of the SPFL Premiership by beating Hearts 2-0 to go five points clear.

Steven Gerrard’s side travel to Hibs on Friday knowing that anything less than a win will give Celtic the chance to extend their lead further when they host Aberdeen on Saturday.

Hearts made a lively start to last night’s match with the surface at Tynecastle making good passing football almost impossible.

After 28 minutes James Forrest combined with Ryan Christie to create an opening with the former Inverness Caley Thistle forward crisply striking the ball into from 20 yards out.

Forrest and Odsonne Edouard had chances to extend Celtic’s lead but five minutes from the break Forrest’s cut back from the left was netted by Olivier Ntcham to double Celtic’s lead.

Celtic really should have scored a couple more during the early stages of the second half but bad luck and a few inspired saves kept the score down.

Nir Bitton and Leigh Griffiths replaced Forrest and Edouard in the last 10 minutes with the spotlights firmly on Gerrard to see how his side respond against Hibs tomorrow night.
