Celtic restored their five point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership with a 2-1 win over Aberdeen.

The scoreline barely reflected the balance of the match but when the final whistle blew it was points rather than goal difference that mattered.

Celtic could have been home and hosed within 20 minutes but only had a sixth minute effort from Chris Jullien to show for their efforts.

Completely against the run of play Aberdeen equalised 10 minutes from the interval creating some concern among the home fans as the dominance of their side wasn’t reflected in the scoreline.

The second half was more evenly matched as referee Euan Anderson gave the Dons a series of free kicks around the Celtic penalty area while missing similar incidents at the other end of the pitch.

Fortunately Odsonne Edouard put Celtic in front in the 66th minute quickly followed by a red card for Sam Cosgrove for a dangerous attack on Kris Ajer.

Celtic saw out the closing 20 minutes as they edged closer to the turn of the year with the prospect of an eight point advantage still on the table.
