Steven Gerrard has taken consolation from his own failures with Liverpool’s treble celebration.

On Saturday Jurgen Klopp’s side won the World Club Cup to put it alongside the Champions League and Super Cup in the Anfield trophy room.

It’s the first time that all three trophies have been held by the club who were unable to win a single English Premiership title through Gerrard’s long glorious playing career.

In 2014 they nearly won the EPL but a slip from their skipper against Chelsea opened the door to Manchester City who won the title.

Gerrard left the club a year later before taking the plunge into management in May 2018 when he moved to Ibrox.

Since stepping into the hot-seat he has watched Celtic win all four domestic honours.

During 2019 Gerrard lost a Scottish Cup replay at home to Aberdeen, trailed in nine points behind Celtic in the SPFL then lost the League Cup to Neil Lennon’s side earlier this month at Hampden.

With three trophies now at Anfield 2019 hasn’t been a complete failure for the former Liverpool u-18 coach.
