Forest Green Rovers are hoping that they will be able to keep hold of Jack Aitchison until the end of the season.

The teenage striker moved on loan to the League Two side at the end of the summer transfer window and has been a key figure in their promotion push.

Aitchison has made 18 appearances so far, scoring six goals with the English side who will speak to Celtic this month to keep the striker for the second part of the season.

Rich Hughes, Forest Green’s recruitment chief told The Sun:

We’d love to keep him. That’s a conversation to have with Celtic. The deal is for the season but comes with a break clause, which is common in most deals, but I think they’re happy. We’re certainly more than happy with Jack. We think it’s a good fit.

Aitchison’s success at Forest Green could pave the way for other Celtic youngsters to make the same move.

The loan market can be something of a lottery for Celtic to place young players to get the first team experience that their development needs.

Robbie Deas (Alloa), Stephen Welsh (Morton) and Ross Doohan (Ayr United) have all been playing regularly on loan in The Championship this season.

Last month Neil Lennon ruled out recalling Aitchison despite Celtic’s shortage of strikers when Vakoun Bayo and Leigh Griffiths were unavailable.
