Celtic returned to Glasgow Cup action tonight with a 2-0 win over Queens Park at Lesser Hampden.

Liam Burt and Ben Wylie scored either side of the interval as the home side made Celtic work hard for the win after losing to Clyde, including Danny Lennon, in the opening group match.

Loan defenders Robbie Deas and Daniel Church were recalled to the Celtic defence alongside full internationalists Lee O’Connor and Jack Hendry.

It was a tight first half with little in the way of chances with Queens defending in numbers and Celtic struggling to break them down.

After 27 minutes Burt took an unconventional route to goal when he sent over a perfectly placed cross/shot from a very tight angle that found the far post.

Queens didn’t provide much of a threat to the Celtic defence but the only other goal of the game was in the 75th minute when the ball was worked across the penalty box to Wylie who curled a left foot shot around impressive Queens keeper Ques Heraghty.

On Tuesday Celtic face Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup at Dumbarton.

CELTIC: Hughes; O’Connor, Hendry, Deas, Church; Burt, Connell, Wylie; Harper (McBride 55), Afolabi, Oko Flex
