John Hartson was delighted by yesterday’s unexpected twist in the SPFL title race.

The former Celtic striker knows what it is like to be involved in a close race for the trophy, since December 29 there has been a sinking feeling among the hoops support that technically their side is in second place.

A date has still to be found for St Johnstone’s visit to Ibrox but winning that match would put the Ibrox side in front with the next Glasgow derby scheduled for Ibrox in March.

Celtic’s win against Ross County on Saturday wasn’t the most convincing but it’s points rather than performances that matter at this stage with Gerrard’s side trailing by five points as they kicked off at Tynecastle.

By the full-time whistle the gap remained at five points with just one game in hand- exactly the same position as the side’s were in before the December derby.

The questions are now being asked about Gerrard’s side with their manager claiming that he had eight passengers at Tynecastle yesterday.

At Celtic the focus is all on St Johnstone, all that Neil Lennon’s side can do is win their matches and look on to see if the Ibrox players have the strength to maintain a challenge.
