Benkovic latest as Bristol City appear favourites to sign the Leicester defender

Celtic’s interest in Filip Benkovic seems to be fan led with the defender apparently close to joining Bristol City on loan.

All through the transfer window there has been reports of the young Croatian going out on loan with the arrival of Ryan Bennet at Leicester’s training ground triggering the latest bout of speculation.

The 29-year-old looks like joining from Wolves allowing Brendan Rodgers to send Benkovic out on loan after a frustrating first half of the season on the bench at Leicester.

Neil Lennon has been sending out contrasting messages about defenders over the last month. Technically Celtic seem well covered but the injury records of Jozo Simunovic, Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed suggest that a back three won’t always be an option.

Benkovic would appear to be an ideal option for a back three or back four but that won’t be up for debate if he is pictured joining Bristol City or Middlesbrough later today.
