Lee O’Connor is reported to be a loan target for Oxford United.

The defender signed a four year contract with Celtic in September but has still to feature in a top team squad although he has recently captained the Reserve side.

With Jermie Frimpong grabbing his chance to be first choice right-back chances seem limited for O’Connor this season with Moritz Bauer and Hatem Abd Elhamed also competing for a place in Neil Lennon’s side.

As a regular in the Ireland u-21 side and from his time with Manchester United O’Connor will be well known across the English game with Oxford currently sitting in fourth place in League One, just two points short of an automatic promotion slot with a game in hand.

There is very little detail to the report with The Herald claiming:

It is understood Oxford United are hoping to take the player to the Kassam Stadium.

O’Connor picked up his first full cap for Ireland in the November win over New Zealand and will be looking to continue his progress under Stephen Kenny who will step up to manage the full team next season.

Oxford boss Karl Robinson has already been busy in the loan market this week with Liam Kelly coming in from Feyenoord and Nathan Holland from West Ham.
