Hearts gave Celtic a massive title boost today by ending a seven match winning run for Steven Gerrard’s title contenders.

Ryan Kent sent the visitors in front three minutes after the break but Hearts equalised 10 minutes later through Steven Naismith.

With seven minutes left to play former Cliftonville striker Liam Boyce sent a low shot goalwards that found the net thanks to a touch from Borna Barasic.

The result leaves Celtic five points clear with a game more played, no date has yet been arranged for the match against St Johnstone that Gerrard’s side has outstanding.

Referee Steven McLean gave a serious of baffling decisions against Hearts but despite three minutes of stoppage time Hearts held on to claim their third SPFL Premiership win of the season.

The last time Hearts had enjoyed an SPFL win was on November 9 at home to St Mirren, despite today’s win they are still a point behind Hamilton at the bottom of the table.

It was Gerrard’s 100th game in charge of the Ibrox but the celebrations planned will be shelved as the advantage gained by winning the Glasgow derby is wiped out.

Over the next 10 days Gerrard’s men have three home matches to navigate against Ross County, Aberdeen and Hibs and while Celtic travel to St Johnstone, Hamilton and Motherwell.
