Celtic have turned to the Daily Record to tell fans that they have contacted Sky Sports over Kris Boyd’s comments about Leigh Griffiths.

After scoring Celtic’s second goal in the 3-1 win over Kilmarnock the striker aimed his celebration at the former Portland Timbers striker tucked away in the Sky Sports studio at Rugby Park.

That reaction clearly rattled Boyd who was more erratic than usual after Celtic had picked up full points to stay clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership.

Asked or his thoughts on the match Boyd launched into a full blown attack on Griffiths who missed the second half of last season to deal with personal issues.

The former Kilmarnock striker heads up a Mental Health charity but rather than show some sympathy towards Griffiths and praise his recovery Boyd took the opposite approach.

Celtic fans took to social media to criticise Sky Sports with many calling on Celtic to take action against the broadcaster.

Rather than deal with the issue directly it seems that Celtic have informed the Daily Record of their concerns:

Celtic have written to Sky Sports to demand answers over Kris Boyd’s controversial comments about Leigh Griffiths.

Record Sport understands Parkhead chiefs have been inundated by fans complaining about the pundit’s pop at the striker in Wednesday night’s broadcast of their 3-1 win at Rugby Park.

BT Sport will screen Celtic’s next three away matches- at St Johnstone, Hamilton and Motherwell- with Sky Sports next live match coming on February 16 away to Aberdeen.

Boyd is a columnist at The Sun.
