Celtic’s Soro mystery

Tonight Ismaila Soro is expected to be in action for Bnei Yehuda against Hapoel Afula- four days after his farewell match!

Bnei boss Elisha Levy revealed that Sunday’s match against Hapoel Tel Aviv was the midfielders’ last game but despite a welter of speculation about moving to Celtic Soro will be in Israeli Cup action tonight.

With a £2m transfer apparently about to be rubber stamped it seems amazingly risky on the part of the player and the club to be involved in a cup tie.

Bnei have only once picked up a cheque for over £1m, last season when Macabbi Haifa paid 1.4m euros for 19-year-old striker Yarden Shua. Other than that deal the highest fee that they have picked up as was 800,000 euros from Ludogorets for Mavis Tchibota.

Other than the comments of Levy there has been nothing else to back up speculation that Soro is Celtic bound.

Tonight’s match with Afula will be watched closely online, if Soro is indeed bound for Celtic then he will be arriving match fit but it seems a high-risk policy with a fee twice the club record at stake.

If Celtic had an incoming bid for £50m sitting on the table it’s highly unlikely that Peter Lawwell would allow the player to be in the firing line of a cup tie!
