Hatem Abd Elhamed has published a timely update on his groin injury.

The defender hasn’t kicked a ball in earnest since Celtic’s dramatic Europa League win away to Lazio at the start of November.

Kris Ajer missed Saturday’s win over Partick Thistle through injury with Nir Bitton’s early hamstring knock forcing Jozo Simunovic into action for the first time since August.

Elhamed can play at right-back or in central defence, this afternoon he took to Instagram.

Very positive results this morning. Will be back with my teammates soon

The former Hapoel Beer Sheva defender was close to a return to action at the end of last year but suffered a set-back during Celtic’s training trip to Dubai.

Ajer could return to play at Kilmarnock on Wednesday which would solve a problem with Simunovic only playing once on a plastic pitch since joining Celtic in 2015.

Jeremie Frimpong has become Celtic’s first choice at right-back since Elhamed was injured with loan signing Moritz Bauer as back-up.
