Steven Gerrard is hoping to shift Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones this week after welcoming the wing wizards to Ibrox in the summer.

Plans for a January clear out have failed to happen with Greg Docherty, Matt Polster, Jordan Rossiter and Wes Foderingham still draining the wage bill with clubs reluctant to put in an early offer with the distressed state of finances at Ibrox an open secret.

Last January Jones was signed on a pre-contract agreement from Kilmarnock and responded with a WATP message on social media while still a Killie player. Since moving to Ibrox his career has nose dived with a red card against Celtic in September failing to impress Mr Gerrard.

Brandon Barker was apparently snatched from under Neil Lennon’s nose but four weeks after signing the Ibrox side splashed out £7m on Ryan Kent from Liverpool. Barker has started two matches in the SPFL and made three substitute appearances since signing his three year contract which the Daily Record claims is worth £10,000/week.

Rangers hope to offload wide men Brandon Barker and Jordan Jones this week – and allow manager Steven Gerrard to make one new signing for the title race.

Record Sport understands the two wingers – who were both recruited last summer – are already considered surplus to requirement by Gerrard as the Ibrox side head into the second half of the campaign trailing Celtic by five points.

And clubs south of the border have been alerted to their availability as the clock races down to Friday’s night’s deadline.

Gerrard has already trimmed his numbers since the turn of the year with Eros Grezda, Andy King and Jamie Murphy all moving on.

Liverpool loanee Sheyi Ojo looks like remaining at Ibrox for the rest of the season. Winger Jake Hastie signed from Motherwell in the summer and was quickly sent on loan to Yorkshire giants Rotherham where he has started 10 matches in League One.

Recently appointed Director of Football Ross Wilson has still to bring in his first transfer fee with Italian interest in Glen Kamara and Borna Barisic cooling after recent displays. There has been no follow up from Barcelona or Sevilla after their reported interest in Alfredo Morelos.
