Moi Elyounoussi is on the comeback trail but looks unlikely to play in Celtic’s opening matches of 2020.

The on-loan Southampton winger missed out on the November internationals with his only appearance since then being an out of sorts 45 minutes in the League Cup Final last month.

Elyounoussi picked up the October Player of the Moth award with his strong wing play and eye for goal badly missed during his absence.

The Daily Record reports:

The Norwegian international had protective casting around the damaged area, but Lennon explained: “Elyounoussi is out of the boot now and may train at the start of next week.”

Going by that update the home match against Ross County of January 25 would seem to be the earliest return date for the Norwegian international.

After effectively a two month absence Celtic will be careful not to rush Elyounoussi back from what was reported as a stress injury in his foot.

There have been some suggestions that Celtic have been in discussions with Southampton about a permanent move for the former Basel and Molde winger but that is likely to be premature.
