Leigh Griffiths has admitted that there’s nothing better than shutting up certain critics by putting the ball in the back of the net.

It doesn’t require too much detective work to realise that the certain critic is Kris Boyd.

Whether it is on Sky Sports or in The Sun the former Portland Timbers striker always seems to be on the case of Griffiths but on Wednesday night he crossed a few lines.

Calling out inaccurate statistics to slam the striker Boyd opted to overlook the fact that Griffiths required time out of football to deal with personal matters. Having set up a Mental Health charity after the death of his brother Boyd ought to have shown some sensitivities on the matter.

Neil Lennon spoke out about the issue at his media conference today but Griffiths gave his view to Celtic’s in-house media team.

In an interview with Celtic TV (2 minutes in)

QUESTION) Players always have their critics in football but you seem to use that as motivation, does it make you more effective, does it spur you on?

Yeah, especially when certain critics are watching the game and judging the whole performance. There’s nothing better than critics watching the game and shutting them up with what I do best which is scoring goals.

It’s always nice but I’m trying to focus on myself to make sure that I can stay in the starting XI and also get my fitness levels up.

So far this season Griffiths has scored five goals including strikes in both matches since the winter break.
