Leigh Griffiths scored his first goal since August then told Premier Sports that his time with Celtic is far from finished.

After scoring three goals in the opening weeks of the season a succession of injuries saw the former Hibs striker out of contention as social media went into overdrive predicting his demise.

At the start of December he failed to make the bench for the final of the League Cup with Celtic bringing in Polish striker Patryk Klimala as his first signing on the January transfer window.

Griffiths partnered Odsonne Edouard in attack for the 2-1 win over Partick Thistle and notched Celtic’s first goal of 2020 just 12 minutes into the match.

Covering his post-match interview with Premier Sports The Sun reports Griffiths saying:

My time at Celtic is far from finished, believe me. Today I’ve shown I can still score goals and play well.

It’s been a long time coming. I’ve just had to bide my time, keep working hard in training and when I get my chance I need to play well and score goals.

I made a run towards the ball and it got moved to the other side. I just had to be in the box and be alive for any chances.

The defender’s nicked it off Odsonne [Edouard] and into my path – the only place I’m going to put it is the back of the net. It’s frustrating not playing but when I get the chance I need to try and take it.

On Wednesday night Celtic return to SPFL business when they travel to Kilmarnock with Lennon having to decide whether to retain two strikers in his side.

The plastic surface at Rugby Park has been difficult to overcome in recent seasons with Killie warming up for the match with a 6-0 win over Queens Park today.
