John Hartson believes that Neil Lennon has to tackle the Leigh Griffiths situation head-on.
Tuesday’s signing of Patryk Klimara appears to have relegated the Scotland striker to third choice and immediately added to speculation that Griffiths could be going out on loan this month.
That prospect was heightened when Griffiths responded to social media posts about his future before deleting his Twitter account which had almost 250,000 followers.
After scoring in both of the opening SPFL fixtures this season it looked like the former Hibs striker was close to top form but there have been no goals since August 10 with a variety of injuries restricting his availability and forcing Celtic back into the transfer market.
The BBC reports Hartson saying:
It will be interesting to see whether there are whispers that he’s really not happy, wants to move, wants more game time, or can Neil persuade him and say there are still opportunities and he still has a major part to play.
When you’ve got too many players fighting for a certain position, you are going to get one or two unhappy. That’s when the manager is very important by still keeping them hungry and when they do get that chance, they make sure they are ready.”
Griffiths appeared to take a full part in training during Celtic’s Dubai break but Lennon is bound to have Klimara in his thoughts for Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie away to Partick Thistle.
