Celtic’s reported interest in Niclas Eliasson appears to have been killed off in less than 24 hours.

The Daily Record claimed that ‘senior Celtic sources’ were interested in the Bristol City winger with Neil Lennon looking to sign a Moi Elyounoussi type player before the transfer window closes.

Eliasson is only in his first season as a regular in the Bristol City side but crucially his club has an option in his contract to extend it until June 2021.

The English Championship is one of the most over-heated transfer markets in the world with the players’ agent, Hasan Cetinkaya telling The Sun that a move is highly unlikely this week.

Asked if Eliasson could make a transfer this month, he said:

No, it’s going to be difficult. Bristol want to keep him for their aims to move up. Then he has an option in his contract the club will use.

Interest comes from big clubs and major leagues and clubs are looking to buy him now but Bristol has said no. That’s all I can say right now but in the summer window, something big could happen to Niclas.

Scott Sinclair left Celtic early on in the transfer window but the deal to take Lewis Morgan to Inter Miami has still to be completed.

Filip Benkovic has been linked with a return to Celtic, with Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton both injured Lennon currently has three central defenders available with the untried Stephen Welsh recalled from his loan to Morton on Friday.
