Neil Lennon has dropped a strong hint that Leigh Griffiths could start tonight’s Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle.

The striker has had an eventful week with the signing of Patryk Klimala leading to speculation that the former Hibs striker could be on his way out of Celtic.

Griffiths followed that with some drama on social media but all seemed well yesterday as pictures were published of Griffiths relaxed and laughing at training yesterday.

The jokes end later today when Celtic face Thistle in the Scottish Cup, when the team is announced at 4.15pm there could well be a rare starting place for Griffiths.

Lennon told The Sun:

Everybody is speculating about Griff at the moment, but we aren’t in any real rush to look at that. So Griff may start against Thistle and I think he’d like to stay here. He’s never made any intimation he would want to leave.

We will see how things go over the next few weeks. I can’t comment on speculation surrounding any player, and there has been a lot in the last few months about Griff but he is hungry and he wants to play — he has made that pretty clear to me.

Last month the only match that Griffiths started was away to Cluj where he looked shar on limited rations.

In domestic matches he was given 15 and 20 minute runs as a substitute but made little impact with a new striker the first priority of the transfer window.
