Jack Hendry has completed his move to Melbourne City in what the club describes as ‘an injury replacement contract’.

Celtic paid Dundee £1.2m for the defender two years ago but after some initial outings at right-back he has failed to make any inroads into playing in central defence.

During 2019 he only made two substitute appearances with Neil Lennon making it clear that playing time would be limited when Hendry was left out of the squad that completed the Europa League group stage away to Cluj.

Hendry told the Melbourne City website:

I’m looking forward to the challenge of coming to Australia and continuing my development at Melbourne City.

It’s an exciting prospect to come to another league across the globe and play football and for the time I am at the Club, I’m fully committed to achieving success at Melbourne City.

Injuries to Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed haven’t improved Hendry’s Celtic prospects but despite reports of interest from Hearts and Ross County he has decided to head to the A League to pick up his career.

Melbourne City are part of the Manchester City stable of clubs with Hendry expected to make his debut at the weekend at home to Perth Glory. City are currently in third place in the A-League trailing leaders Sydney FC by 11 points.
