Davie Provan has called out Peter Lawwell over his incredible salary- SEVEN times that of the Governor of the Bank of England!

The £3.5m that Lawwell took from Celtic in the year to June 2019 (in bonus and salary) is increasingly being questioned by fans as the club keeps a strict reign over spending in all other areas.

Paying out the equivalent of £70,000 a week to a player would never be considered with the Chief Executive effectively picking up £70 from every season ticket sold.

In the year to June 2019 Celtic’s turnover fell to £83.4m from £101.6m the previous year but there was no impact on executive pay levels. For the second season running, in August Celtic failed to reach the Play Off stage of the Champions League with Cluj joining AEK Athens, Maribor and Malmo as unseeded clubs ending Celtic’s hopes of reaching the group phase of football’s richest competition.

Turning to boardroom pay levels Provan opens his column in The Sun with:

LET me start with an apology. Recently I claimed Peter Lawwell was on three times the salary of the governor of the Bank of England.

Turns out I was wrong. The new governor earns half-a-million a year. Lawwell trousered seven times that amount last year. Forgive me, Peter.

Good luck to him I say and a quick look at Celtic’s bank balance suggests he knows what he’s doing. Money is still pouring into the Bank of Celtic like a waterfall. The next cheque heading Celts’ way could be a sell-on fee for Moussa Dembele if his move to Chelsea goes through.

On top of the £25m banked for Kieran Tierney, it’ll help keep the boardroom lights on. But if Lawwell knows anything about football he’ll recognise Celtic are in a bit of bother. The days of an annual stroll to the title and Champions League qualifiers are over. In Rangers, Celts now have proper opposition on their hands

In their annual report Celtic had a bank balance of close to £40m with supporters expecting some of that balance to be transferred onto the pitch this month.
