BBC Scotland has dropped Michael Stewart from tonight’s Sportscene programme.

On Tuesday the state broadcaster issued an apology for comments made on Sportsound the previous evening when the Edinburgh based pundit had been critical of Ibrox PR guru James Traynor.

Yesterday Stewart was dropped from Radio Scotland’s coverage of the midweek fixture card allowing BT Sport to benefit from the views of the former Hearts midfielder.

Covering the latest developments, The Sun reports:

MICHAEL STEWART has been AXED by the BBC for at least the next five days as the fall-out from the Jim Traynor row continues.

SunSport understands the former Hearts and Hibs midfielder will NOT feature on tonight’s Sportscene show.

It’s believed Stewart has been told he won’t be appearing on the highlights programme, Saturday’s radio coverage, Sunday’s Sportscene or Monday’s Sportsound. And now the footie pundit’s future with the public broadcaster has been thrown into serious doubt.

It’s not known whether Stewart will return for next week’s midweek coverage of all six Premiership matches to be aired on Thursday evening.

Steven Thompson is likely to be on his own for tonight’s show alongside host Jonathan Sutherland.

Stewart appeared on BT Sport last night alongside Chris Sutton, Gordon Strachan and Stephen Craigan for live coverage of Celtic’s 4-0 win at Motherwell.
