BBC Scotland has refused to cover Celtic’s statement requesting an explanation from Sky Sports over a wrongly translated interview that accused hoops fans of using racist words.

The state broadcaster was quickly onto the interview, accepting without questioning the translation served up by Sky as they covered the claims extensively throughout Monday.

Sportsound on Monday discussed the issue in detail between Kenny MacIntyre, Darryl Broadfoot and Michael Stewart with only the former Hearts midfielder questioning the claims.

BBC Scotland showed highlights of the December 29 Glasgow derby but despite their extensive coverage have yet to broadcast any evidence to back up the claims made through the Sky translation.

Just before 5pm on Tuesday Celtic announced that they had requested Sky to investigate the translation with some phrases highlighted in bold in the club statement.

Soon afterwards the interview was pulled by Sky which gave two great news angles- Celtic’s statement and Sky ditching their world exclusive. BBC Scotland chose not to notice.

Earlier in the day their Morelos coverage was mixed up with four stories about Leigh Griffiths and an alleged stamp but BBC Sport decided that Celtic’s statement wasn’t newsworthy.

This morning BBC Scotland are leading their football coverage with a story of how Livi have rediscovered their roar. Following that they use an agency report to explain the views of Steven Gerrard and Morelos on racism followed by another twist on the Griffiths ‘stamp’. The homepage covers stories on Jack Hendry’s injury, Tony Watt training with Motherwell and details of Celtic’s Ladies first match of the season.

Tonight Radio Scotland will provide live commentary on the Motherwell v Celtic match with an exclusive pre-match interview with Neil Lennon.

The BBC are capable of apologising for their coverage, at the start of Tuesday’s Sportsound they issued an apology to James Traynor.
