Sporting Braga were forced to train at Murray Park last night with the pitch at Ibrox struggling to remain playable after a week of storms.

Saturday’s match against Livingston was postponed due to surface water with conditions little better on Sunday when the game was played.

Despite claims of investment in the stadium and a hybrid pitch the area in front of the Main Stand cut up badly with rain forecast for throughout today.

Steven Gerrard was critical of the pitch after the recent win over Hibs but yesterday he was pushing the party line.

“Groundsmen are working tirelessly to get it in the best condition it can be and it could play a part in the game, depending on weather,” the Ibrox boss told the Daily Record. “It did at the weekend.

“It was heavy underfoot. The players were saying at the end of the game that they could really feel how soft it was. It’s probably not as bad as it looks on the eye.”

Ryan Jack is suspended for tonight’s match against Braga who beat Benfica 1-0 in Lisbon on Saturday.
