Celtic surged 10 points clear in the SPFL title race as the hoops beat Hearts 5-0 while Steven Gerrard watched his side crash to another 2-1 defeat away to Kilmarnock.

It was plain sailing for the leaders as they crushed Hearts with four second half goals as the drama unfolded at Rugby Park.

Leading by a first half wonder goal from Scot Arfield the roof fell in on the Ibrox men once former Celt Stephen O’Donnell equalised in the 77th minute.

With five minutes left to play Alfredo Morelos had the ball in the net but John Beaton ruled it off for offside. Earlier the Colombian starlet was booked for stimulation.

In the 88th minute former Celtic youth Eamonn Brophy shrugged aside the presence of Conor Goldson to drill a low shot past Allan McGregor.

At the final whistle players from both sides clashed with McGregor booked in the aftermath.

Olivier Ntcham, Chris Jullien, Callum McGregor, Ryan Christie and Jozo Simunovic scored for the champions as they ran over Hearts. On Saturday Livingston visit Ibrox with Celtic going to Aberdeen the following day.

As well as the 10 points Celtic have an 18 goal advantage in terms of goal difference.
