Celtic have been linked with a move for Gillingham defender Jack Tucker.

In December the 20-year-old signed a contract extension which according to his club’s website will run ‘for a few more years’ with The Sun reporting that the contract runs until 2023.

Had he been out of contract in the summer Celtic could move for him for a ‘Dembele style’ cross border type deal but while he is under contract EPL clubs will almost certainly be able to outbid the hoops for a player.

According to The Sun:

CELTIC and Rangers are on course for a summer fight to sign £1.5million-rated Gillingham defender Jack Tucker. SunSport understands the Hoops have consistently scouted the 20-year-old since the start of the year.

Interest from Ibrox can be discounted with their £10m budget deficit for the season illustrated by their lack of business during the January window to boost their title challenge.

Tucker is a central defender which is likely to be a position Celtic will be looking to strengthen in the summer. Jozo Simunovic is out of contract while Hatem Abd Elhamed has missed a large chunk of the season through injury leaving Chris Jullien and Kris Ajer with little cover/competition for places.

Earlier in the season Celtic were linked with Gillingham’s teenage goalkeeper Joe Walsh, in January it was Gillingham who made an enquiry about taking Karamoko Dembele on loan.
