A report from Wales has claimed that Celtic made an offer to take Josh Murphy on loan from Cardiff during the January transfer window.

Mikey Johnston’s injury at St Johnstone last week seemed to cause some concern to the Celtic management but a loan to buy option for the Cardiff City winger seems like an unlikely solution.

The Welsh side splashed out £11m to sign Murphy from Norwich in the summer of 2018 but he only started 22 EPL matches last season as Cardiff were relegated.

The 24-year-old has struggled to get game-time this season but according to BBC Wales:

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris insists Josh Murphy has a “big part” to play for the club after they rejected a bid from Celtic for the winger.

It is understood the Scottish champions tried to sign Murphy on loan – with an option to buy – in the January window. The 24-year-old has only started two of Cardiff’s 14 Championship fixtures since Harris took charge in November.

Moi Elyounoussi and Boli Bolingoli were both on the bench for Celtic last night with their return giving Neil Lennon fresh options on the left wing.

Celtic were also linked with Newcastle’s Christian Atsu on Transfer Deadline Day but had to settle for bringing in Patryk Klimala and Ismaila Soro to add to the first team squad.
