Gerrard has been far from shrewd, if anything he has fanned the flames, going the extra mile to fuel the paranoia.
Millions have been spent, he has played along with every stunt. Alfredo Morelos won’t be sold for less than £40m, Juventus wanted to sign Glen Kamara and Borna Barisic was on the radar of Roma.
As he added players to the pay-roll expectations grew. In the summer £7m was committed to signing Ryan Kent after the signing of half a dozen wingers.
The League Cup Final of December 2019 was a travesty of justice as the Liverpool legend was cruelly denied his first trophy in management. Revenge was quickly dished out at Celtic Park but the post winter break form has been horrendous.
